Lot Essay

Josiah Wedgwood (1730-1795) founded the Wedgwood pottery firm and created the famous Queen's Ware and Jasper Ware. William Hackford was the principal modeller for Wedgwood from 1769 to 1832. A similar portrait relief medallion is in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
