My interest in antique English furniture and Chinese and Japanese Works of Art was initiated by my association for the past eighteen years with the Woollahra Antique Centre and my friendship with the late Ernest Elphinstone, a remarkable character and specialist dealer is Asian art. For the past 38 years I have lived in a Californian bungalow in the seaside suburb of Tamarama, and as much as is possible tried to emulate the atmosphere of an English country home, albeit, on a modest scale. My Georgian and Chinese furniture was collected with the purpose of mixing them with Chinese and Japanese porcelains to achieve this ambience, which I achieved to suit my own eclectic taste. I have had great fun and satisfaction in searching out these particular items which have become like old friends over the years we have lived together, and I hope that whoever purchases them, cares and provide s a welcoming home to accommodate them for future decades. A REGENCY ROSEWOOD SOFA TABLE
Early 19th century, the rectangular twin-flap top above a bolection moulded frieze with concealed opposing frieze drawers, on inverted baluster end supports, with panels of knurled decoration, swept legs with brass lion paw castors, 70 cm. (27 1/2 in.) high, 152 cm. (60 in.) wide, 69 cm. (27 in.) deep
