Title within historiated architectural woodcut border, engraved portrait of Paré (dated 1585) and numerous woodcut illustrations in text of anatomy, surgery, artificial limbs, surgical instruments, animals and other subjects. (Marginal tears and repairs to title and last few leaves, some scattered staining, small hole in Vv4 lower inner margin of AA1-FF6 repaired affecting text of CC1-4, quires AAA and BBB transposed.) 18th-century sheep gilt (rebacked, old spine laid down, corners repaired); cloth folding case. Provenance: De Dourrey (early ownership inscription on front free endpaper); F.EM. Boutineau (bookplate); Janet Doe, 1939 (bibliographer of Paré, signature on front pastedown).
Fourth edition and "the most highly prized of the collected editions, and rightly so. Carefullyrevised by the author, it was the last one to be seen personally through the press by him" (Doe 31). NLM/Krivatsy 184.
