8o (160 x 99 mm). 18th-century red morocco, gilt-panelled on sides, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt-lettered in one, gilt floral panel in the remaining, turn-ins gilt, marbled endleaves, edges gilt (some slight rubbing and soiling).
A very fine copy of Estienne's 1556 edition of the Psalms, ruled and red. This edition presented two different versions in parallel columns with extensive notes: the traditional Vulgate text established by St. Jerome well over a thousand years before and a new translation by Sante Pagnini. The two appear here side by side. Vatable's extensive commentary appears beneath the texts of the Psalms. Not in Schreiber. Adams B-1435; Renouard I, p. 87.
