8o (199 x 123 mm). (Title mounted repairing tear, some soiling throughout.) Contemporary Cambridge black morocco gilt, smooth spine gilt-lettered and -ruled, upper cover with name of ELIZA GARDINER lettered longitudinally in gilt, edges gilt (some wear). Provenance: Thomas Dering (inscription: "The Gift of Thomas Dering to his affectionate daughter Eliza" on title, bookplate); Eliza Gardiner (binding, manuscript notations, inscription from her father).

ELIZA GARDINER'S COPY, in a fine Cambridge binding. Between the Old and New Testaments are 11 pages of Gardiner family genealogy in various hands, noting the marriages, births, baptisms and deaths in several generations of the Gardiner family. On the verso of the title to the New Testament is written "Eliza Dering born the 21st if April 1760." One sheet, the earliest and presumably written by Eliza Gardiner, records the birth of her husband Nathaniel Gardiner (10 January 1759) and the date of their marriage (27 January 1784). The records of their children's births follows. A later copy of this page is also inserted. A slip records a list of possessions at East Hampton, followed by a 5-page pencil description of the history of Nathaniel and Eliza's children.
