Autograph letter signed to Gelston, Treasury Dept., 11 January 1808. 1 page, 4to, integral address leaf WITH GALLATIN'S FREE FRANK. "The supplementary Embargo Act having provided that coasting vessels shall give bonds & having also affixed penalties to breaches of the Law; vessels detained, by virtue of the President's instructions...may be permitted to proceed upon giving the bond required...You may...draw up such a form of bond, as you think will answer..." -- GALLATIN. Four printed circular letters signed, several with autograph notes appended, all addressed to Gelston, Treasury Dept., 22 December 1807, 26 April 1808; 29 June and 9 August 1809, each 1 page, 4to or folio, all with integral address leaves, all WITH GALLATIN'S FREE FRANK and usual postmarks, minor defects, generally in superb condition. All passing on to Custom officials important modifications or limitations to the complex set of regulations under the Non-Intercourse Acts of 1809-1810, which prohibited American trade with France and Britain. -- RUSH, Richard.
