KENNEDY THANKS A NEW YORK ART DEALER FOR A HISTORICAL PRINT ON THE WAR OF 1812. President Kennedy tells Wickersham June of Wickersham Galleries on Madison Avenue: "I would like to thank you for the very interesting and unusual print of The White House which you gave my wife for me. I am very glad to have such a historical record of the war of 1812. Everyone who has seen it has been fascinated by the art work of the print and by the story it tells of White House history. Thank you again for this generous gesture, and please accept my very best wishes for the holiday season." The British, of course, burned the White House in the War of 1812, but under the Kennedys, the Executive Mansion became not just the Presidential residence and workplace, but a historical museum of American furniture, decorative arts and historical portraiture.
