In December 1853, "John Mullen was convicted of Larceny and sentenced to be imprisoned in the common jail, for a period of six months, and to pay a fine of one dollar." Now, "it has been made satisfactorily to appear to me that the prisoner is a fit subject for the exercise of Executive clemency," President Pierce grants him a "full and unconditional pardon."
