TAYLOR, Zachary (1784-1850). Document signed ("Z. Taylor Co. Comdg.") n.p., n.d. [probably 1837-1840], 1 page, oblong (4 1/8 x 8 in.), text in a in a clerk's very neat italic hand.
Col. Taylor, probably during his military campaigns in the Second Seminole War, certifies an army allotment for firewood: "on honor that the above requisition is correct and just, and that no Fuel has been drawn for any part of the time above charged." Only one bank check of Taylor is recorded as having been sold at auction, in 1979. A document such as this, therefore, offers a viable alternative to the virtually unobtainable check.
