The former President (who this year would serve as an elector for James Buchanan) directs his bank, in Kinderhook on the Hudson, near his estate of Lindenwald, to remit [$5.00] to one Dietrich J. Lunn.

VERY RARE. Printed checks of Van Buren are inexplicably rare on the market; simple handwritten payment orders are not uncommon. The Kadlec collection contained an example similar to this one, and another dated 22 March 1856 was sold at Christie's, 10 December 1999, lot 191, $5,500.
