EISENHOWER, Dwight (1890-1969). Partly printed check, accomplished in typewriting and signed ("Dwight D. Eisenhower"), drawn on Guaranty Trust Company of New York, New York, 2 October 1948. 1 page, oblong (3¼ x 8½ in.), cartouche design around edges. A charitable gift to the United Hospital Fund for $200.00 during the uneasy New York chapter of Ike's postwar career. The move from Supreme Commander of Allied Forces to the presidency of Columbia University in 1948 was difficult; Ike himself took to joking that the Trustees had confused him with his brother Milton (president of Kansas State University and later Johns Hopkins). EISENHOWER'S CHECKS ARE AMONG THE RAREST OF 20TH CENTURY PRESIDENTS.
