ROOSEVELT, Franklin D. Three typed letters signed ("Franklin D. Roosevelt"), two as Governor, one as President, 1931-1942. Together three pages, 4to, on Gubernatorial and White House stationery.
THREE FINE FDR LETTERS. On 30 March 1932, Roosevelt sends a check for ten dollars to an Albany autograph dealer, James Mott. An inveterate collector throughout his life Roosevelt not only compiled a massive trove of stamps, but acquired autographs, historical Americana, and first editions. On 12 February 1931 he tells W. H. Shaw of Utica that he cannot join the Utica Chapter of the Isaac Walton League of America: "I have had to stop joining any organizations as there are many requirements made of me!" Walton is the patron saint of anglers. On 29 January 1942, FDR writes a friendly letter to his former Secretary of War Harry W. Woodring, whom he cast off in 1940 in favor of the more aggressive interventionist, Henry L. Stimson. "It was good to hear from you and to have that renewed assurance - though it was not necessary - that you are available at any time. I shall certainly keep that in mind." Together three items.
