THE GEORGIA PEACH PLUCKS SOME BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES. A jumpy letter to his broker that shows Cobb's restless, roaming personality. "Well I am here in the deep and hot south and I now have about all I can stand of it. I leave tomorrow morning for Atlanta...then Ft. Riley Kansas then to home at Menlo Park, Calif....I would like to spend only 5 or 6 days at my place in Calif. and then to Lake Tahoe if this can agree with your plans....I have really done some good here in arranging some business matters and feel [I] have accomplished a lot." Cobb was an automatic choice to be the first player voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame when it was created in 1939, but he enjoyed few friends during and after his playing days and managed to estrange himself from each of his five children. Both his marriages ended in divorce. He was, however, an astoundingly successful businessman and through shrewd investments amassed a fortune of $10 million.
