PAYING THE SALARY OF PRINCE GOLITSYN. Two years after becoming Emperor of Russia, Peter intervenes on behalf of one of his most trusted military commanders: "Prince Golitsyn has been ordered to go on a campaign, please pay him all of his salary without withholding any quarter of it." The subject, Dmitry Mikhaylovich, Prince Golitsyn (1665-1737), was the favorite of Peter's sister, Sothya, and attempted unsuccessfully to transform Russia into a Constitutional monarchy.
