A George II silver tea-kettle, stand and lamp

The stand on four shell and scroll feet hung between with Venus mask, shell and flower garlands, the lamp with detachable cover, the inverted pear-shaped kettle with leaf-capped scroll spout, part-wicker covered swing handle and hinged slightly domed cover with pine-cone finial, the stand and kettle chased with a band of shell, scrolls and foliage on a matted ground and with two shaped cartouches, each engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on lamp, lamp cover, kettle base and cover, engraved with scratchweight '59.12'

The arms are those of Cotton with Sleigh in pretence, for Rowland Cotton (d.1753) and his wife Mary, daughter and co-heir, with her sister, of Sir Samuel Sleigh Kt., of Etwall.
