CIRCA 1755, THE MOUNTS CONTEMPORARY
Painted in the manner of Giovanni Caselli with a continuous frieze of travellers and harvesters in a landscape, the underside with a figure holding a basket of fruit kneeling before a maiden, the cover with merchants in conversation at a quayside and two women before an encampment outside a town wall, the hinged mount with a three-colour thumbpiece formed as flowers issuing husks (mounts re-attached to box, thumbpiece with small repair)
