CIRCA 1695-1700, BLUE AK MONOGRAM G (?) MARK FOR ADRIANUS KOCX, COVER WITH G MARK
Of slightly tapering form, painted with eight dragons dividing four large up-turned lappets and four large down-turned lappets, each enclosing geometric ornament, below a border of lozenges and triangles, the footrim with scrolls and pendant dot ornament, the shallow domed cover with four lappets radiating from a circular flowerhead border about a knop finial, the rim with scrolling foliage enclosing lozenges within a double concentric circle border (beaker with three fine cracks from rim, very small chip and minute flake to rim, cover with very small chipping and flaking to rim and interior flange)

Lot Essay

A polychrome bottle-vase with a very similar pattern is illustrated by D. & R. Aronson, op. cit., p. 71, no. 83, where they attribute the painting to Jeremias Godtling who joined De Grieksche A in 1693.
