A DUTCH DELFT POLYCHROME TANKARD
CIRCA 1700
Of baluster form with a bold loop handle, painted in underglaze blue, green, yellow and red with three Orientals seated around a table at discussion, another standing behind them, with jardiniéres, vessels, a large vase issuing flowers, a plinth and steaming burner nearby, an exotic bird in flight to the right, above a border of blue C-scrolls enclosing red scrolls, the straight neck with a stylised fence suspended from a blue border reserved with scrolling foliage with flowerheads at intervals, the handle with an indentation for a mount (hole in base filled with associated lacquer to interior, rims with chipping and flaking to glaze, three hairline cracks from upper rim)
