Lot Essay

This work is sold with a photo-certificate from Maya Widmaier-Picasso dated Paris le 3 Avril 2005.

Please see note to lot 310. The basic outline of the 29 October 1970 Visage de femme series (lots 310, 326, 321, 311, 327, the present work, 320 and 315) is detectable within this drawing, which Picasso appears to have begun in a similar manner as the sixth in this sequence. He then drew over the contours of his female subject, and proceeded to render a male musketeer head, which he constructed as a composite image of both frontal and profile views.
