FIRST EDITION of this autobiographical account by a Black woman of Newburyport. Mrs. Prince was born in 1799 and tells of her ancestry, and her travels in Europe (especially in Russia where she met the Empress) and in the West Indies. She describes her voyage to Jamaica in 1840, detailing the conditions of Blacks on the island and her associations with anti-slavery ministers there. She describes visits to Key West, New Orleans and New York. The first edition is scarce: only copies of the 1853 edition appear in American Book Prices Current for the last thirty years. Sabin 65570.
