FIRST EDITION. "This is the first and best edition of a most interesting work, by an intelligent observer of the peculiarities of the Pawnees, before they had been modified by contact with the whites...We follow [Murray] with an unabated interest in his narrations of his adventures during a three months' tour in the Indian territory" (Field). Murray later befriended Catlin, and is depicted in his Indian Portfolio as the figure being chased by a bison. He organized Catlin's exhibition at Egyptian Hall in London.
