A SUPERB COLLECTION OF FINE ITALIAN WINE THE MAJORITY FROM PRESTIGIOUS PRODUCERS IN TUSCANY
The following lots 1 to 118 are from the cellar of Ristorante La Fortezza del Brunello, which was an exceptional restaurant in Montalcino, famous for it's wine list. It opened in 1999 and, sadly, ceased to exist in December 2003. It was located in the charming hamlet of S.Angelo in Colle, just ten minutes from Montalcino. This means that most of the wines offered below have actually left Montalcino for the first time in their existence.
Laura Gray owner and sommelier says: " In 2003 we received the prestigious Wine Spectator Fine Dining Restaurant Award, specifically for our wine list. In a restaurant with 6 tables, we had a list of over 600 labels. You can imagine that local man - Marco Sassetti with Oxford educated Scottish sommelier wife (er that's me) - made for entertaining hosts and we had many faithful followers. The restaurant had a cellar hewn out of volcanic rock beneath the levels of the tables and we also had another cellar (also extremely old) where we kept our wines with religious care and attention to humidity, temperature etc. although we were lucky enough to have a constant temperature, some ventilation and no north facing walls."
