Lot Essay

The composition follows the picture by Batoni, dated 1775, in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich.

In the present picture Kurfürst Karl Theodor is depicted just before the height of his reign, becomming souvereign of Bayern in 1777. He is portrayed with the Order of Hubertus and Georges.
