FERWERDA, Abraham. Catalogus Universalis cum pretis of de Boek-Negotie. Leeuwarden: Ferwerda, 1772-1779.

24 volumes, small 8o (165 x 105mm). Original Dutch red-stained sheep-backed speckled paper-covered boards, paper letterpress title labels to spines (most labels defective, light scuffing).

A fine set of the FIRST EDITION of this very rare work: the first bibliographical catalogue to list prices at which books were sold. Ferwerda apparently compiled his information from over two hundred auctions held between 1702 and 1772. In addition to the 17 volumes of the catalogue, this set also includes 4 supplemental volumes of French books and 3 supplemental volumes of books from the Netherlands. Besterman 332-333; Archer Taylor, Book Catlogues: their varieties and uses pp.43-44. (24)
