It lists 'some 1,500 philosophers and their works in chronological order from 2162 B.C. to the end of the fifteenth century; philosophers of the sixteenth century are listed by name only. A second part gives a useful bibliography of the Church Fathers down to the year 1140. the title emphasizes the work's usefulness for "bibliothecariis"' (Breslauer & Folter 34).
