GEORGI, Theophil (c. 1674-1762). Allgemeines Europäisches Bücher-Lexicon. Leipzig: Georgi [and W.H. Schönermarck], 1742-1758.

8 volumes in 6 (vols. 1-5 in 3 and supplements 1-3 in 3), 2o (c. 338 x 222 mm). Titles printed in red and black. (Some light browning and staining.) Modern boards (vols. 1 and 2 in one); 19th-century boards (vols. 3-5 in 2 some wear to spines); and 19th-century half vellum (vols. 6-8 in 3 light wear to edges). Provenance: Speyer, Episcopal Library (18th-century bookplate in 2 supplement volumes); Heidelberg University Library (stamp and cancel in 3 supplement volumes).

FIRST EDITION. "Georgi's massive work represents the last attempt to list all the books ever printed (up to 1757). Over 120,000 titles are given in one long author alphabet and three supplements. It is still useful for information on seventeenth-century German books. Since Georgi, a Leipzig bookseller and publisher, intended this work to be primarily of use to the book trade, he included size (number of quires) and current price in each listing" Breslauer and Folter 101.
