The best account of the state of science and literature in Turkey at the end of the eighteenth century. Vol. II is entirely devoted to the description of the Turkish universities and libraries, and gives a catalogue of the library of the Seraglio transferred to Venice (in Turkish); Vol. III contains an account of the Turkish and foreign printing presses in Constantinople, a description of the various books printed there, a history of printing in Turkey, etc. Of special interest are the two folding plates of music for Turkish instruments.
