ELZEVIER, Louis III. Catalogus librorum officinae Ludovici Elzevirii. Amstelodami, Apud Ludovicum Elzevirium, MDCXLIX. Paris: Simon Raçon et Cie. for J. Chenu, [1855].

12o (150 x 85 mm). Collation: A6. PRINTED ON VELLUM, the only copy. Elzevier device. Jansenist red morocco by Roger Devauchelle for B.H. Breslauer. Provenance: Karl Küp (one-time curator of the Spencer Collection, New York Public Library), bookplate.

Reprint of the 1649 stock catalogue of the Amsterdam branch of the Elzevier Press, from the Hamburg City Library copy, which was then the only one known to be extant but has since perished in World War II. Dr. Breslauer discovered another copy of the original, which was sold in the first portion of his sale at Christie's last March, lot 19. The collector Chenu paid Raçon for printing one hundred copies, of which this is the exemplaire de tête, NO. 1 OF 2 COPIES ON VELLUM.
