BOUND BY PIERRE-LUCIEN MARTIN FOR JACQUES MILLOT, Paris 1961: light-grey box calf, large brown suede panel laid into covers, front cover inlaid with grey and white calf forming the cypher of the Société de la Reliure Originale, smooth spine with longitudinal lettering, signed and dated on back turn-in, original wrappers preserved. Matching chemise and slipcase. Provenance: Professor Jacques Millot (his name tooled on front turn-in), his invitations to the exhibition and the large fold-out original poster inserted.
The Society's first exhibition, for which its president André Rodocanachi was mainly responsible. It was a landmark occasion, as a large proportion of contemporary bindings were exhibited.
