A picture about Columbus was sure to be made on the five hundredth anniversary of his voyage to the New World, but I didn't want him celebrated as a hero. Instead of a day for celebration, Columbus Day ought to be one of mourning. I wanted to tell the truth about how he and his minions expolited and killed the Indians who greeted them, but the script had wrapped him in all his myths as a great sailor and explorer...I mumbled my way through the part and gave an embarassingly bad performance...

- a plot summary, 14pp. of mimeographed typescript, inscribed on the reverse of the last page in Brando's hand May the great spirit be with you. We smoked the sacred pipe together. We cried together in the sweat lodge and cleaned our hearts and our spirits. We remember you ducking the bulitts [sic] when you were under fire from national Guard at Menominee;
- a typescript letter from Brando to "Roger", regarding copyright, signed by Brando in black ballpoint pen, 1p.;
- a typescript agreement between Brando and the producers of the film, regarding scenes to be deleted or amended;
- five copies of a typescript letter from Brando to Tom Selleck, dated 23 January, 1992, the two-page letter beginning Yesterday my intuitive fears were realized, which is that we are in a picture flatter than an Aunt Jemima pancake..., the letter asking Selleck to consider some changes to the script that Brando wishes to make, 2pp.;
