Provenance: William Targ, editor at Putnam's at the time (presentation inscription from the author, purchased from House of El Dieff, Inc. in the mid-1970s); purchased by the present owner at Christie's New York, 9 June 1992, lot 9.

FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, NUMBER 14 OF ONLY 35 LARGE-PAPER COPIES ON VÉLIN SUPÉRIEUR, of an overall edition of 2500. SIGNED BY BECKETT in black ink below his printed name on title-page, AND ADDITIONALLY INSCRIBED BY BECKETT (in the 1970s) at head of title-page in blue ink: "For William Targ With all good wishes from Samuel Beckett." The fist edition in English, translated by Beckett himself, appeared two years later. Federman & Fletcher 259; Lake, No Symbols Where None Intended (Austin, 1984), no. 125. A VERY FINE COPY AND EXTREMELY RARE IN THIS LIMITATION.
