FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by McKenna to Walter Bradbury: "To Walter Bradbury, whose early enthusiasm for this book helped very powerfully in the making of it. Richard McKenna New York 12/28/62." McKenna's novel was the basis for a 1966 movie starring Steve McQueen, Candice Bergen, Richard Crenna, Mako, and Richard Attenborough. The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Actor and Best Picture.
