FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. Rostand's play about a poet who is too embarassed by his unsightly nose to woo the beautiful Roxanne was the basis for a 1950 film starring Jose Ferrer and a 1990 film starring Gerard Depardieu. Ferrer won an Academty Award for his portrayal of Cyrano; the 1990 version received five nominations including ones for Depardieu and for Best Foreign Film. Steve Martin starred in a 1987 comedy based on the play entitled Roxanne.
