SWIFT, Jonathan (1667-1745). Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World ... by Lemuel Gulliver. London: Benj[amin] Motte, 1726.
2 volumes, 8o (195 x 119 mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of Gulliver (a few minor marginal repairs) and 6 plates. (Some very minor browning and occasional soiling.) Contemporary calf, edges gilt (rebacked preserving most of original backstrips, endpapers renewed); quarter morocco folding case.
Teerink's AA edition, or second octavo (but with General title to vol. II as in the B edition), with the frontispiece portrait of Gulliver in the second state (with the legend round the frame). Teerink 290 ("Hubbard also says that copies of the AA edition occur with title 4 of the B edition"). Swift's work, known as "Gulliver's Travels," has long been considered the epitome of satirical fable writing and has also become a classic tale for children over the years.
