Original tan cloth stamped in black; pictorial dust jacket (some minor chipping along ends of spine panel, internal tear repaired on verso of spine panel); elaborate and colorful morocco folding case with a miniature rope bridge strung from the front to the back cover. Provenance: Mr. Holliday (presentation inscription).

FIRST EDITION, ONE OF ONLY 21 COPIES OF THE PRELIMINARY ISSUE, released a day before the Longman's, Green London edition and a full week before Boni's American edition. This issue is printed on a different stock, has the title-page printed in black only (versus in black and green), and the cover is stamped in black only. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY WILDER on the front blank: "For Mr. Holliday with all the best wishes of his friend Thornton Wilder."
