A Victorian skeleton timepiece with fusee and great wheel
Jeffreys & Gilbert. Circa 1860
The white enamel annular Arabic chapter ring signed Jeffreys & Gilbert with pierced gilt-metal hands, the Y-frame movement with three turned brass pillars with rosette terminal, great wheel with chain fusee, the barrel with pierced crossing to display the spring, great wheel and second with six crossings, third and escape wheel with five, pin-wheel escapement with silk suspended sunburst pendulum, the movement frame resting on four gilt-brass dragons and an oval white marble base and further purpose-made ebonised plinth and glass dome
