A Continental gilt-metal striking small table clock
Possibly South German. Circa 1680
The square case with glazed D-ended panels to the sides with repeat button, hinged base cover with bun feet and inset with a bell with single brass strap, the dial engraved with a river winding through a village with a man in the foreground carrying a basket of goods on his back, silvered chapter ring, later hour hand, minute hand now lacking, the movement with four square brass pillars, chain fusee for the going with verge escapement with later balance cock, balance wheel and now with hair spring and later regulation, foliate pierced and engraved gilt gates for the strike train with foliate engraved going barrel, now with rack strike, the hammer in the form of a boar's head
