A kingwood veneered longcase clock
Edward East, London. The movement and dial circa 1670, the case of later date
The case with rising hood having twist columns and triangular pediment, rectangular trunk door and skirted plinth with bun feet, the 10. in square re-gilt brass dial signed Edwardus East Londini beneath a silvered chapter ring with later blued steel hands, the matted centre with silvered seconds ring, winged cherub spandrels, latches to the dial feet and also to the six ringed pillars of the movement, anchor escapement, bolt-and-shutter maintaining power, outside countwheel strike on a bell above the plates; the movement and dial basically circa 1670/75 - with alterations/restoration, the case carcass partially old, the veneers probably 20th Century
