A Charles II ebony striking table clock of Phase I type

The case with gilt-brass D-shaped handle to the shallow moulded top applied with a large gilt-brass winged cherub, brass ball finials, long glazed sides, the front door applied with later gilt-metal foliate escutcheons and a pierced ebony sound fret, later gilt-brass feet, the 8½ in. square re-gilt dial signed Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit beneath the silvered chapter ring with trident half hour markers and every minute engraved to the outer concentric ring, later pierced blued steel hands, calendar aperture, re-gilt winged cherub spandrels, pinned dial feet, the movement with tall brass rectangular plates secured by six latched ring-turned pillars, the two trains with 'fat' gut fusees and gut lines, re-built knife-edge verge escapement, the strike train with outside steel lifting arm to the rosette engraved and calibrated countwheel planted on the backplate, the strike on a bell above the plates, the backplate engraved with a large rosette around the going fusee pivot to balance the countwheel and signed Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit in a typical downward curve
