Lot Essay

West Country comb-back windsor side chairs dating from the 18th century are extremely rare. This example is in original condition, with residues of its original green paint. Many early West Country windsors are turned with egg-and-reel turnings to the legs, as it the case here. The use of sycamore in the seat is common to West Country windsors.
