Lot Essay

The distinctive characteristic of the frieze rail is almost identical to that of a cupboard now at Browsholme Hall, which was originally made for Richard Towneley of Towneley Hall, Burnley, see Sue Bourne, Oak Furniture and the Towneley Family of Lancashire, in Regional Furniture, vol.1 (1987), pp.19-26.
