A study for the picture now in the Galleria Sabauda in Turin (M. Valsecchi, Il Seicento Lombardo, exhib. cat., Milan, Palazzo Reale, 1973, no. 1) painted in the early 1530s. The picture, of a square format and painted a tempera, was originaly a processional standard. The composition is, according to Giovanni Testori, at the source of Mannerism in North Italy.
The drawing differs from the painting in a number of details, most notably in the angel to the right of Christ and in the figures in the right background, which are absent in the painting.
