Like lot 56, the first drawing is related to the horseman in the background horseman of De V. 274, one of the set of Cavaliers nègres, polonais et hongrois published anonymously in France around 1651 (De V. 270-80). Both drawings are on paper with the same unusual watermark as a Pole with two women in the Gabinetto Nazionale delle Stampe, Rome (Disegni di Stefano della Bella, 1610-1664, exhib. cat., 1976, no. 40, both the drawing and watermark illustrated).
