SILVER OAK

Back in my days as a sommelier, there was one sure way to run out of a wine on a busy night: parade a large bottle of Silver Oak through the dining room. Is it the unmistakable silver label or the extended barrel ageing that renders the gluttonous juice so contagious? I don't know, but once the bottle left our cellar, the zealous requests began. Adventurous entrepreneurs and founders Ray Duncan and Justin Meyers created Silver Oak intending to create wines that could be consumed upon release. What they didn't anticipate was the creation of one of the most desirable and collectable labels of California. The Alexander, Napa and the discontinued Bonny's cuvées all command a following.

Alexander Valley
Levels: bottom neck or better
"This flamboyant, olive, black-cherry, cassis, and spicy-scented wine offers voluptuously rich, chewy, fleshy flavors, medium to full body, and a smooth-as-silk personality. It has been delicious since its release, and it reveals no signs of decline. The color remains an attractive plum/garnet with only slight amber at the edge. Drink it now and over the next 7-8 years."
