Lot Essay

In his 1979 book, Masquerade, Kit Williams, devised an ingenious treasure hunt, with imaginative clues woven into sixteen paintings. The buried treasure was a magnificent golden hare set with jewels, made by Kit and hidden somewhere in England. Masquerade was a phenomenon, read by over two million people in fourteen different countries. The Masquerade Hare was finally found in March 1982.
