Lot Essay

The pantheonic-domed bed (lit á la polonaise), with elegant Louis XVI antique-fluted frame and beribboned and triumphal-arched ends, has flowered upholstery in blue and white Prunus blossom in Chinese porcelain fashion, which was supplied by David Mlinaric.
This London-based architect and interior decorator, whose firm has offices in Paris and New York, masterminded the 1980s restoration of the British Embassy in Paris and has also worked at the British Embassy in Washington. His major restorative projects have involved work for the National Trust as well as the Victoria & Albert Museum, and this upholstery reflects his interest in reviving 17th and 18th Century colours and patterns.
