The rectangular eared and leather-lined top with moulded border above a frieze decorated with foliage entwined Vitruvian scrolls and fitted with a velvet-lined drawer, on square tapering legs headed by foliate patterae and terminating in square caps, the drawer partially relined, stamped twice 'J.MANSER' and once 'JME'

Lot Essay

Jean-Jacques Mantzer, dit Manser (born 1727).

With its distinct marquetry of Vitruvian scrolls, this elegant table relates to others also stamped by Manser. A closely related example was sold Sotheby'’s, London, 26 June 1964, lot 129. Another table, with ormolu Vitruvian scrolls of nearly identical pattern was sold, Paris, 28 November 1978, lot 190 and is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIeme siècle, Paris, 1998, p. 548, fig. B. The present lot also relates to a table stamped by Adrien Delorme, sold, Paris, 22 March 1995, lot 268.
