gouache heighetened with gold on paper, the noble, holding a lotus flower and wearing white robes with gold trim and yellow sash, sits astride his chestnut stallion as he and a group of attendants cross a grassy plain, dark green margin with black rules, red border painted with silver flowers, Rajesthan, 19th century - 14½ x 9in. Lot Essay

The crescent moon above is indicative of the Sisodhiya Maharanas whose ultimate descendancy was from the sun and moon. See also lot 263, 28 July 1994.
