The case with bevelled side glasses and solid rear door, silvered dial with subsidiary seconds and state of wind aperture, blued and faceted steel hands, signed THOMAS MERCER/ST. ALBANS, manually adjusted world time ring, the eight day movement with spot-finished plates, single chain fusee with maintaining power, chronometer escapement with helical balance, the spot-finished platform numbered 900 -- 10½ in. (27 cm.) high over handle

拍品專文

The movement of this clock is that of a standard Mercer eight day chronometer. The case, however, is a prototype designed by Tony Mercer and produced in the Mercer workshops. The hole to the side of the case with sliding cover (matching the one to the rear) was put in place with a view to the possible implementation of a side-winding system. The clock was assembled by Tony Mercer and did not go into production.
