The hood with blind fret panels and glazed side panels, outset fluted columns with cast brass Corinthian capitals, conforming pilasters flanking the trunk door and with marquetry fluting inlays to the front and sides of the case above, above plinth with fluted canted angles, the 12 in. wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with dot minute track, inner concentric calendar ring, the centre with leafy engraving and seconds ring, also engraved around the winding holes, signed Robert Reid EDIN.R, strike/silent ring in the arch, hands now black painted, the eight day movement with four pillars, anchor escapement, rack strike and trip repeat on bell -- 87¼ in. (221.5 cm.) high
